
Pre-registration Form
Sunday February 20th @ 1pm. Free. (postponed 1 week due to frozen-sap conditions! But happening Feb 20th no matter what.)
Location: End of Hazlett St in Northview Heights (next to 279/ Near-ish to Riverview Park). Search online maps for: “Hazlett St 15214” and follow Hazlett briefly until the street ends. We will be gathering at on a privately owned vacant lot (with enthusiastic permission). We plan to have a fire but dress appropriately- we will be trudging around in mud or snow and uneven footing.
Topics covered include: Tree ID, Making Homemade Spiles from Sumac and Elder Branches, How to Tap, Collecting and Boiling Sap, Uses for Sap and Syrup, and Preservation. Should be around 90min.
Please Consider Pre-registering! In case of weather conditions force us to reschedule we would like interested folks to be informed. We will not contact you unless there are changes. And obviously anyone can come, registered or not.
Also: Bring your own carving knife to whittle a spile if you’d like. Ps. This is on a vacant wooded lot, there is no actual restroom. You are welcome to “use” the outdoors.
